BUFFALO, NY – Four University at Buffalo wrestlers were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team the league announced on Friday. Derek Spann, Noah Grover, Ty Raines and Jordan Reyes were all honored by the conference. The four Academic All-MAC selections were the most by a UB team since 2018.
Honored for the third straight season, Spann is an environmental studies major with a 3.44 grade point average. The redshirt-senior went 7-5 overall and 4-2 in MAC duals while battling through an injury-riddled campaign. He finished sixth at the MAC Championships.
Grover is an economics major with a 3.81 GPA. He went 4-6 overall and 3-3 in MAC duals on the season. He had a team-best two falls.
Raines has a 3.28 grade point average as a civil engineering major. Raines went 3-3 overall and 2-2 in MAC duals and had 12 takedowns on the season.
Reyes is a pharmacy major with a 3.89 grade point average. He went 3-3 on the year and had 12 takedowns.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
