Bulls Have Success at ITA Regionals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team competed at the ITA Northeast Regionals this weekend. The weekend was highlighted by a trio of Bulls who advanced to the Round of 16 on Sunday.
After receiving a first-round bye, Azra Deniz Comlek defeated UMass' Thamonpan Jonglertrakul 6-4, 6-3 and then picked up a huge comeback win 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 over Yale's Mirabelle Brettkelly before falling in a hard-fought three set match 6-2, 3-6, 6-10 to Boston in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
In other singles action, Jagmeet Kaur also received a first-round bye and defeated Niagara's Elena Mayet 6-3, 7-5 before falling to Yale's Erin Ha 6-3, 6-3 in her second match of the day. Seniors Ambre Amat and Mariana Carvajal Torres and junior Esmee Andresen also won their opening matches on Saturday before coming up short in the second round.
Amat and Andresen led the Bulls in doubles play as they defeated Bryant 8-3 and then took down a seeded team from Rhode Island 8-5 before falling to Yale 8-5 in the Round of 16 on Sunday. Kaur and Comlek also competed in the doubles qualifiers but dropped their opening match.
Buffalo will return to action on Saturday, October 28 with a doubleheader as they take on Saint Francis (PA) at 12:30pm before hosting Binghamton in the nightcap at 8pm.
