Bulls Drop to Tarleton State on Sunday, 3-2

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The University at Buffalo softball team (4-6, 0-0 MAC) lost to the Tarleton State Texans on the final day of the Tarleton State Whataburger Invitational.
Abbey Nagel had the first hit of the ball game with a single up the middle, but the Bulls couldn't capitalize with the early base runner. Tarleton State got on the board first with a 1-0 lead as they were able to score on a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the second, Buffalo took a 2-1 lead as Alyssa Wasielewski hit a two-RBI double to the right center gap. Lily Lauck and Tianna Williams scored for the Bulls. The score stayed in the bottom of the third as Julia Tarantino took down the Texans in order.
The Bulls allowed the Texans to tie the game off their own mistakes. Tarantino struck out the lead off batter, but that was followed by a single up the middle. Madison Fernimen caught a pop up in foul territory to give the Bulls the second out of the inning. Wasielewski committed the only error of the game to put runners on first and second. A Tarleton State single loaded the bases with two outs. The Texans tied the game on a pass ball but limited the damage as the batter grounded out to the second baseman to end the inning.
The game remained tied at two until the Texans scored in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
The Bulls had life in the top of the seventh. After a Tarantino strikeout, Williams walked for the Bulls. Lauck singled to center to put runners on first and second. Wasielewski flew out to the centerfielder to put two outs on the board. Fernimen walked to load the bases with Nagel up to bat. Nagel struck out looking to end the ball game as the Tarleton State Texans secured the 3-2 win.
The Bulls will be off until Friday, March 1 when they play in the Low Country Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.
