
Bulls Split Opening Day Double Header at Cardinal Classic

SAN ANTONIO – The University at Buffalo softball team (1-1, 0-0 MAC) split their double header at the Cardinal Classic on Friday. In the first game of the day, Buffalo shutout the Prairie View A&M Panthers, 3-0. In their second game, the Bulls fell to the Incarnate Word Cardinals, 8-0.
GAME 1 VS. PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
The Bulls stampeded out of the gates against the Prairie View A&M (PVAMU) Panthers to kick off their action at the Cardinal Classic. Alexis Lucyshyn threw a complete game shutout, striking out 11 Panthers. This marks her seventh career shutout and moves her to sole possession of third all-time in career shutouts at UB.
Buffalo got on the board early against the Panthers as Mia Mitchell hit a sacrifice liner to right field allowing Abbey Nagel to score. Up 1-0 in the third inning, it was Nagel's turn to drive in a run. Nagel doubled to center field driving in Madison Fernimen to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
Mitchell gave the Bulls an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth scoring on a wild pitch. Buffalo took the contest, 3-0 to open the season.
GAME 2 VS. INCARNATE WORD
In game two of the Cardinal Classic, the Bulls faced the host Incarnate Word. The home team defended their home field as they took the contest, 8-0 after five innings.
The Bulls struggled to get the offense going as they were no-hit against the Cardinals pitching. Fernimen and Lucyshyn forced the Bulls' lone walks of the game.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow against the Panthers at 11 a.m. ET. Buffalo will then face the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. ET.
