MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – After dropping yesterday's contest, 9-0, the Buffalo Bulls softball team (12-23, 4-10 MAC) couldn't find the win column in Saturday's doubleheader against the Central Michigan Chippewas (10-23, 7-5 MAC).
The Bulls were edged, 3-0, in game one of the doubleheader by the Chippewas. Both teams totaled five hit apiece, but timely hitting by Central Michigan gave them the win.
It didn't take long for the Chippewas to score as they scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning to go up, 1-0.
Alyssa Wasielewski gave Buffalo their first hit of the game in the third inning with a single to left. She was stranded on the basepaths as thy next two batters flew out.
Central Michigan scored two runs in the bottom of the third with two outs to extend their lead to 3-0. The Bulls had chances in the fifth and sixth innings as they were able to get runners on base, but could not cross the plate.
In game two of the day, the Chippewas earned an 8-0 mercy win in six innings. They stuck first with a foul fly out to right field that scored one run to take a 1-0 lead in the first. They added to their lead on a safety squeeze in the third with runners on second and third to make it a 2-0 game.
In the top of the fourth, Tianna Williams singled to right after a Mia Mitchell walk to put runners on first and second. A pair of strikeouts ended the inning to keep it, 2-0. The Chippewas added a pair of runs to their lead with an RBI single and a triple.
The Bulls defense couldn't slow down the Central Michigan offense as a pair of doubles in the fifth inning gave them three more runs to their lead. The Chippewas led, 7-0, after five innings. Central Michigan ended the game with a walk-off solo home run to right to win, 8-0.
The Bulls will host the Kent State Golden Flashes on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
