Bulls Set For Home Clash With Akron on Thursday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (7-2-1, 3-1 MAC) returns to the friendly confines of UB Stadium on Thursday night as they host the Akron Zips for a 6pm contest.
As a department, UB Athletics is partnering with Hilinski's and 170+ universities to shine a spotlight on mental health in athletics. Fans are encouraged to wear green to help break the stigma and support student-athletes everywhere.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Vinnie Christiano III (play-by-play) and Nick Mendola (color) announcing.
It will be the 26th meeting between Buffalo and Akron with the Bulls holding an 14-8-3 series advantage. UB defeated Akron 2-0 at FirstEnergy Stadium last season.
Buffalo battled through a physical match and hot and sunny conditions to defeat Kent State 1-0 at Dix Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Graduate student forward Jasmine Guerber scored the lone goal of the game for UB. She has now recorded a goal in two straight games, earning her Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Bulls outshot Kent State 8-4 on the afternoon, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 2-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. Junior Lexie Thompson made three saves on the day.
The Bulls are balanced offensively, with 18 goals scored off the feet of seven different players, led by junior midfielder Laiken Kiser who has five goals and Guerber who has notched four goals and four assists for a team-best 12 points on the year. Thomspon leads the Bulls between the pipes, compiling a 7-2-1 overall record. She leads the MAC and ranks in the top 30 nationally in goals against average (.61) and shutouts (5) while ranking second in the league in save percentage (.829) across 10 contests.
As a team, the Bulls lead the MAC and rank in the top 50 nationally in goals against average (.60) and shutout percentage (.500). Offensively, the Bulls lead the league in shots per game (14.7), shots on goal (7.6) per game while ranking in the top three in points (52), goals (18), assists (16), scoring offense (1.80) and corner kicks per game (5.7).
Akron is 3-4-3 overall and 0-2-2 in league play after falling to Miami (OH) 1-0 on Sunday. The Zips are led offensively by Addison Hall who has scored three goals as well as Emma King and Fineen Cregan who have recorded five points each on the year. Sara Bower and Ariana Vakos have split time between the pipes for Akron, as they have combined for a 1.20 goals against average, .782 save percentage and 43 saves across 10 contests this season.
Up next, Buffalo will hit the road for a pair of games, beginning on Sunday, October 5 as they travel to DeKalb for a contest at Northern Illinois at 2pm (ET).
