Bulls Fall to Northern Illinois

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (9-26, 4-10 MAC) lost to the Northern Illinois Huskies (14-22, 9-8 MAC) in their Saturday doubleheader, 5-3 and 20-2.
After two scoreless innings, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double to left center. The Bulls quickly answered as Lily Lauck singled to center that scored Reagan Terwilliger. Isabella Smithson gave the Bulls the lead on an RBI double to right.
Northern Illinois tied the game in the top of the fourth on a double to left center. With runners in scoring position and just one out, the Bulls got out of the jam to keep the game tied, 2-2. With two runners on in the bottom of the fourth, Mia Mitchell singled to center that scored Talynn Williams to give the Bulls a 3-2 lead.
The Huskies unfortunately scored the rest of the runs on the day. In the top of the fifth, they tied the game on a solo home run to left center. In the top of the sixth, they scored a pair of unearned runs which gave them the 5-3 win.
Game two of the afternoon was in favor of the Huskies as they scored 20 runs on 19 hits. The Bulls' offense couldn't get anything going as they scored two runs on 5 hits.
The Bulls are back in action next Saturday as they host the Toledo Rockets for a three-game series.
