BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team is back on the road for a contest against the defending America East champion Vermont Catamounts on Wednesday at 4pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Rob Ryan and Bernie Cieplicki announcing and can be heard on AM 1400 and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
It is just the third overall meeting between the two programs. UB defeated Vermont in an epic 23-point comeback at Alumni Arena a season ago.
Buffalo fought hard but ultimately fell to #24 Kentucky 81-47 on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena. Junior guard Paula Lopez led the Bulls in scoring with 13 points, redshirt freshman guard Aniya Rowe added eight points, five rebounds and three assists and freshman forward Meg Lucas pulled down a team-high rebounds. As a team, Buffalo held their own on the glass overall as they were within two of the Wildcats, who were one of the best rebounding teams in the nation a season ago, but they allowed 17 second chance points and gave up 27 points off turnovers.
The Bulls returned just two players from last year's squad that won the WNIT Championship for the first time in program history. UB added seven transfers and five true freshmen to the roster. Buffalo will play a challenging non-conference slate, including four opponents that played in the postseason a year ago.
Vermont is 2-0 with wins over Dean College and Saint Anselm. They were selected as the preseason favorite in the America East Conference after going 21-3 overall and 13-3 in league play, culminating in an America East championship, the eighth in program history. The Catamounts return three of their top five scorers, accounting for 56% of their scoring, from a season ago including 2025-26 Preseason All-Conference selections Catherine Gilwee and Nikola Priede. Gilwee was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team after averaging 8.1 points, 3.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game last season. Priede is coming off a breakout season where she averaged 9.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game, which ranked fourth in the league. She was named America East Championship Most Outstanding Player and America East All-Conference Second Team.
Up next, Buffalo will return to the friendly confines of Alumni Arena as they host Atlantic 10 foe Fordham on Alumni Day, where the program will honor the 10th anniversary of Buffalo's first Mid-American Conference championship.
