TOLEDO, OH – Junior Caleb Covell was able to collect the individual victory on Friday evening in the men's 6K race as the University at Buffalo cross country teams opened their 2018 campaigns. The UB men were able to earn second place while the women's squad took home fourth place.
The UB men were able to take home second place as they finished just behind the Eastern Michigan men. UB placed three runners inside the top 10 on Friday as Covell was able to run a strong race as he took home first place in 18:33.00. The victory for Covell marked his first win in over a season as he didn't race for the Bulls a season ago.
Sophomore Thomas Flannery had a strong showing for UB as well, placing ninth in 19:01.80 while Benjamin Cardamone took 10th place with a time of 19:04.90. Junior William Hilbert took home 14th place in 19:08.00 and sophomore Christopher Nowak placed 24th in 19:27.10 as the Bulls notched a team score of 57.
On the women's side, the youthful Bulls took home fourth place as they had six underclassmen run on Friday. Leading the way for UB was freshman Riley Jones who was able to collect a sixth place finish in 14:25.90 while senior Lauren Reyda ran a strong race and took home 12th place in 14:41.10. Freshman Lily Meek put together a strong performance in her first career race for the Bulls as she was able to take home 28th place in 15:04.00.
The Bulls will now have a week off before returning home for the UB Stampede on Friday, September 14. The UB Stampede will be held at the Audobon Golf Course in Amherst.
