COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team saw their season come to an end with a heartbreaking loss to Bowling Green in double overtime in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Historic Crew Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Buffalo was on the attack early, creating a pair of shot attempts off the feet of Laiken Kiser and Eva Blatz in the opening five minutes of play, but both missed wide. Later, in the 15th minute, Jasmine Guerber settled in the box and tried a shot attempt, but she didn't quite get all of it as it trickled wide and out of play.
The Bulls had their first corner kick opportunity of the game in the 33rd minute as Ellie Simmons took it and curled a ball on target that was saved by Payton O'Malley. Later, Maya Galko had a chance of her own off a corner, but the Bulls were unable to convert, and the game remained scoreless at the half.
Both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities out of the break, but UB finally had a look in the 63rd minute as Carolyn Hinkle found space in the top of the box and drilled a shot that sailed high. Later in the 80th minute, Kiser played a great ball to Sarah Woods who found Hinkle in the box, and she flicked a header on net, but O'Malley was there for the save. Bowling Green had chances in the final minutes of regulation, but the Bulls were able to thwart the attack and send the game to overtime.
The Bulls had a look in the first overtime as Hinkle found herself in scoring position once again as she put another ball on target, but O'Malley made the save once again.
After a back-and-forth affair to start the second overtime, the Falcons scored the game-winner in the 107th minute to secure the victory.
The Bulls finish the 2025 season with a 12-5-2 overall record.
