Bulls Host Kent State on Thursday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (9-1-4, 4-1-2 MAC) continues Mid-American Conference play on Thursday as they welcome Kent State to UB Stadium for a 6pm contest.
It will be the 28th meeting between Buffalo and Kent State with the Golden Flashes owning a narrow 14-11-2 series advantage. Kent State defeated UB 2-1 in the regular season finale a year ago.
Despite outplaying the Falcons for most of the game, Buffalo conceded a late second half goal as they played to a 1-1 draw at Bowling Green on Sunday. Freshman forward Carolyn Hinkle recorded the go-ahead goal, the first of her UB career, in the 74th minute. The Bulls dominated the stat sheet as they outshot the Falcons 14-3 on the night, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 3-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.
The Bulls are balanced offensively, with 20 goals scored off the feet of 12 different players, led by senior forward Jasmine Guerber who has four goals while four other Bulls have recorded a pair of goals. Sophomore Lexie Thompson has led the Bulls between the pipes, compiling a 9-1-4 overall record and recording nine shutouts a .36 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. Thompson leads the MAC and ranks in the top five nationally in those three categories.
As a team, the Bulls are one of the best defensive teams in the MAC as they lead the league and rank second nationally in goals against average (.36) save percentage (.911) while ranking 10th in the nation in shutout percentage (.643). They also rank in the top four in the league in corner kicks per game (5.3), shots per game (14.5), shots on goal per game (6.5) and goal differential (15).
Kent State is 6-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in league play after defeating Central Michigan 3-2 on Sunday. Senior midfielder Alisa Arthur leads the Falcons offensively with six goals. In net, Kent State is led by senior Heidi Marshall who has made 37 saves and owns a 0.661 save percentage and a 1.54 goals against average in nine starts.
Up next, the Bulls will have a weekend off before returning to action on Thursday, October 24 as they host the Ohio Bobcats in the final home game of the regular season at 6pm.
