Bulls Host Heavyweight Matches Against Bowling Green and Toledo on Thursday and Friday

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (10-10, 6-1 MAC) will host the Bowling Green Falcons (10-8, 5-2 MAC) on Thursday followed by the Toledo Rockets (12-7, 5-2 MAC) on Friday. Both matches will start at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. With the Bulls currently sitting as the top-seed in the MAC, Bowling Green and Toledo are in a four-way tie for second with Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan at 5-2.
The Bulls are coming off a three-match road trip where they continued to rack up wins. Buffalo went 3-0 on the week with wins over Akron, Miami (OH) and Ball State. They have now won six in a row and continue to be the hottest team in the Mid-American Conference.
The all-time series against Bowling Green has been in favor of the Falcons. They lead the series, 42-10, and have won the last 11 matches. Buffalo's last win against Bowling Green was on Nov. 8, 2019, in a 3-1 decision. Head Coach Scott Smith is 3-10 against the Falcons in his tenure at Buffalo. The Falcons were picked second in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 102 points and one first place vote. They also received two MAC Tournament champion votes. In the last two MAC Tournaments, the Bulls' run in the tournament came to an end by the hands of Bowling Green in the MAC Semifinals.
The Toledo Rockets have had their way against the Bulls as they've won five of the last six matchups. Overall, Toledo leads the series, 25-7. Buffalo and Toledo split their weekend series last season at Savage Arena. Toledo was selected to finish sixth in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 79 points.
The Bulls have had their way in conference play. Buffalo is the only team in the MAC to have three players in the top-10 in points per set. Katrin Trebichavska leads the MAC with 4.86 points per set as Manoela Forlin is third (4.24) and Abby Leigh is seventh (4.07).
Trebichavska leads the MAC in aces per set with 0.59 throughout the 2024 campaign. On the season, she has 32 which is 23rd in the country. The outside hitter is two aces shy of passing Maria Perry (1984-87, 159) for eighth all-time in program history in career aces. As a team, the Bulls are 24th in the nation with 128 aces.
Going with their 6-1 first place record in conference play, Buffalo holds the top marks in hitting percentage (.266), assists per set (14.00), kills per set (14.96), aces per set (2.00) and digs per set (16.32).
Abby Leigh leads the MAC with a .415 hitting percentage that is good for 16th in the country. In just conference play, she holds the top mark with a .435 hitting percentage.
Maria Futey is digging her way up to third all-time in program history in career digs. The senior libero is up to 1,459 digs and is nearing Ann Reed's (1988-91) 1,525 digs.
Following this weekend the Bulls will host the Akron Zips on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
