
Bulls Stay in Texas for Tarleton State Whataburger Invitational

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The University at Buffalo softball team (3-2, 0-0 MAC) is set to begin their second weekend of the 2024 season on Friday. The Bulls will participate at the Tarleton State Whataburger Invitational for their second tournament in Texas this season.
Buffalo enters the weekend with a 3-2 record. The Bulls have started 3-2 twice in the last three seasons. Julia Tarantino leads the Bulls offense with a .538 batting average, seven hits, three doubles and six RBIs. In the circle, Alexis Lucyshyn earned MAC Pitcher of the Week honors after her 3-0 start last weekend. She threw 16 innings without letting in an earned run and allowed opposing batters to hit just .153. Lucyshyn's 22 strikeouts is second in the MAC and 11th in the NCAA.
The Bulls will open the tournament on Friday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. ET against Mississippi Valley State. The Delta Devils enter the weekend with a 0-3 record as they played at Stinger Classic hosted Alabama State last weekend. Jade Smith leads the Delta Devils offensively with a .375 batting average and one run batted in. Maya Rameriez leads the team with a 2.00 ERA through seven innings pitched. This will be the first meeting between the programs.
UB will then play the Idaho State Bengals following their game against the Delta Devils at 5:45 p.m. ET. Idaho State is 6-0 on the season having opened the last week on the west coast. Gracie Smith leads the team with a .550 batting average with 11 hits and two home runs. She added four stolen bases which earned her Big Sky Player of the Week honors. To go along with Smith's honors, pitcher Marley Goluskin won Co-Big Sky Pitcher of the Week honors. She held opponents to a .158 batting average through 10 innings pitched. The Bengals lead the all-time series as the Bulls have gone 0-5. The Bulls will face the Bengals again on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
To open Saturday's competition, Buffalo will face Lafayette College at 10:30 a.m. ET. The Leopards will open their 2024 season on Friday against Mississippi Valley State. They finished last season with an overall record of 8-36-1 and 4-14 in Patriot League play. Buffalo is 1-0 all-time against the Leopards.
Buffalo will then wrap up play this weekend against host Tarleton State at 12:15 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon. The Texans went 2-3 at the McNeese State Tournament last weekend. Kelci Hill leads the Texans with a .467 batting average and four RBIs. Kendall Daniel holds a 4.20 ERA and five strikeouts. Buffalo is 1-0 all-time against the Texans.
