4/12/2024 6:20:00 PM | Softball
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A six-run first inning for the Central Michigan Chippewas (8-23, 5-5 MAC) was enough to get by the Buffalo Bulls softball team (12-21, 4-8 MAC) in game one of the weekend series on Friday. The Chippewas won by a final score of 9-0 after six innings.
After the Bulls went down in order in the first inning, the Chippewas offense exploded in the bottom half. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, a single to left drove in both runners. The Chippewas loaded the bases after a hit by pitch and walk. They added another pair of runs off an error to lead, 4-0. Another fielding error cost the Bulls as the Chippewas extended their lead to 6-0.
Mia Mitchell gave the Bulls their first hit of the afternoon with a single through the left side. Abbey Nagel then reached on a fielder's choice as Mitchell got out at second. Central Michigan got out of the inning with a 4-3 double play.
A lead off walk for the Chippewas cost the Bulls another run as a double to right center scored the run. After three innings, the Bulls trailed, 7-0.
Sara Kelly gave Buffalo some life in the fifth inning after a double to right but didn't come around to score.
The Chippewas ended the game in the sixth inning after a two-run double to right center ended the game in a mercy.
The Bulls and Chippewas will be back in #MACtion tomorrow at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
