GENESEO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track and field team wrapped up day one of the Geneseo Roundtable Invitational on Friday evening.
Lydia Lanski had a personal-best time of 14.64-seconds in the 100-meter hurdles in the finals heat. She would finish second overall. Humphrey Banful and Chinemerem Ononiwu both qualified for the men's 110-meter hurdles. The teammates would push each other in the finals heat as they would both earn lifetime personal best performances. Banful would finish first in 14.75-seconds with Ononiwu finishing right behind for second place in 14.85-seconds.
In the women's 400-meter hurdles, the UB women had a dominating performance sweeping the top-four positions. The herd of Bulls finishing in order were Hannah Seiders (1:04.91), Kamryn Hodges (1:05.15), Patsy Iannico (1:06.74) and Payton Rowe (1:07.40). Seiders and Hodges both ran personal bests.
Elijah Kerner ran to a personal best in the 200-meter dash in 22.28-seconds, nearly a half-second faster than his previous best.
In the field events, Samantha Hjelmar easily won the high jump in 5'-05.00" (1.65-meters). Samantha Spinella (17'-00.75" / 5.20-meters) and Kelsey Shapiro (16'-10.75 / 5.15-meters) placed second and third in the long jump, jumping into a very strong headwind.
Caleb Nickens set a new personal record as he won the hammer throw in 190'-8" (58.12-meters), which is third on the UB all-time top-10 list. Sam Wray broke the SUNY Geneseo facility record in the discus throw with a season best toss of 171'-2" (52.17-meters).
"Tomorrow will be another great opportunity to compete," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "For the field events, they expect 80-degree temperatures, but I expect the distance events could be a bit tough with the expected heat and wind. Nevertheless, a great opportunity to get out and compete!"
