
Bulls Continue Indoor Season at Akron On Friday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track & field program is back in action this Friday, continuing the indoor season at Akron at 4 pm. The Bulls opened their season at Akron before the winter break on December 6th, with several student-athletes starting their season in style. The Bulls saw five new top-ten performances enter the program's record book.
LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Kara Moran was the first collegiate finisher in the women's long jump with a new personal best mark of 5.77 meters. Moran's mark ranks sixth all-time in UB indoor history, tying Kailyn Arcury's personal record set in 2017. The sophomore doubled back to win the triple jump with a mark of 11.92 meters, a personal-record indoor performance that ranks eighth all-time in UB indoor history.
Freshman Akuot Kuany joined the all-time UB indoor record books in her debut with the Bulls, winning the women's high jump with a mark of 1.75 meters. Kuany's mark tied Caitlin Godin's, set in 2006. Freshman Stella Kapp finished second in the women's high jump to Kuany with a mark of 1.70 meters. Kapp's mark joins the all-time UB indoor record book too, taking ninth.
Senior Kevin Gabalski won the men's 60-meter hurdles with a new personal record time of 8.11. Gabalski's time ranks ninth all-time in UB indoor history.
Freshman Micah Blair won two events in his debut with the Bulls, taking the men's long jump and triple jump. Blair started the night with a win in the long jump and a mark of 6.98 meters. The freshman's mark was nearly a tenth of a meter shy of reaching the UB indoor record book (7.11m). Blair doubled back to win the triple jump with a mark of 14.01 meters.
Freshman Sophia Sampson finished sixth in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 25.20. Sampson was just eight-hundredths of a second shy of joining the all-time UB indoor top ten (25.12).
Freshman Ryan Cardichon took third in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters in his debut with the Bulls. The freshman's personal best mark trails senior Calvin Finger's personal best (2.04m) on the men's roster. Finger and Tyler Norton tied for fifth with a mark of 1.90 meters.

More student-athletes on the men's and women's roster will be making their season debuts at Akron as the team prepares for the indoor season to ramp up.
MAC gold medalist, school record holder and NCAA Regional qualifier Zahra Amos is slated to start her senior campaign in the high jump. Amos broke the indoor school record last year in the event with a personal record mark of 1.80 meters. The then junior tied her mark at MAC Championships to bring home gold in the high jump.
Second-Team All-MAC selection and 300-meter indoor school record holder Tal Hamel is expected to make his senior season debut at Akron. Hamel is scheduled to compete in the men's 400-meter dash where he ranks fourth in program history with a personal best time of 47.91. The senior's personal record was set last year at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational and was just a second shy of the school record, set by Josh Gali in 2017 (46.92). Hamel also has the tenth-ranked indoor 200-meter dash time of 21.77, just over five-tenths of a second shy of the school record, also set by Gali in 2017 (21.25).
